Texas County Memorial Hospital became the first hospital in the state of Missouri, large or small, to ever receive FEMA grant funds to construct an on-campus tornado safe room. The community safe room will provide a safe place for up to 462 hospital patients, employees and community members during times of inclement weather. The 4,000 sq. ft. structure is built to withstand winds of up to 250 MPH. The storm shelter is located on the south side of the hospital campus.
The public can access the tornado safe room by turning into the hospital drive next to the Medical Office Complex and then continuing straight for 200 yards (scroll down to view the map).
