October 19, 2018Deanna MacNaughton of Houston has received the 2018 Certified Nurse Assistant of the Year award at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
MacNaughton, a home health aide at TCMH since 2014, was chosen for the award by the nurse managers at TCMH. She is a CNA for Home Health of the Ozarks, TCMH’s home health agency.
Courtney Owens, Hospice of Care and Home Health of the Ozarks director described MacNaughton as someone who connects well with people because she is so kind-hearted.
“Clients love her and often request to have her come back,” Owens said.
“She works primarily in our in-home section, which means she does a lot of housekeeping and running for clients,” Owens explained. She added, “She has been known to scrub a kitchen floor on her hands and knees.”
“She is the kind of employee that employers dream about getting to hire,” Owens said.
As CNA of the year, MacNaughton received a personalized award of crystal, a gift card, and fresh flowers.
TCMH provided a mandatory skills lab for CNAs and other assistive personnel at the hospital on October 3, 2018. As part of the skills lab, participants were required to work their way through 10 stations that provided education. Some of these stations were hands-on giving the participants more experience in their required skills.
The stations were on topics such as customer service, patient safety, infection control, and fire safety.
The state of Missouri requires all assistive personnel to be educated on certain procedures yearly. The skills lab is a way for TCMH to provide the required education as well as show appreciation to the participants.
TCMH also provided a free breakfast as part of the skills lab, and participants had the chance to win door prizes. The two prizes were a coffee mug and a gift bag including things such as a leather keychain, a cup, compression socks, and more. Great Scrubs & More of West Plains donated the gift bag.
TCMH currently employs 25 CNAs or assistive personnel. They work in several departments of the hospital—medical surgical, obstetrics, emergency room, home health, and hospice.
