July 30, 2013Plans are underway for the seventh annual Texas County Memorial Hospital Healthcare Foundation Chili Cook Off to benefit Hospice of Care. Cook off organizers are asking interested participants to save the date of Sat., Nov. 2nd with plans of attending or participating in the annual event to be held in Houston at the Texas County Fairgrounds.
The annual cook off features teams competing for chili prizes and raising money for TCMH Hospice of Care. The event will also features music, a live auction, a homemade pie auction, a cakewalk as well as the opportunity to sample all the chili.
Chili cooking teams are comprised of five people and are sponsored by businesses and organizations. Currently Landmark Bank, Community Bank NA, Intercounty Electric Cooperative, Walmart Supercenter, Mercy Clinic, Houston High School Administration and Raymondville United Methodist Church are sponsoring teams. Three TCMH departments are also participating in the cook off—the medical surgical department; the emergency medical services department and Home Health of the Ozarks.
Team sponsorship is $150 and includes t-shirts for the team members, cook passes and promotion prior to the event. Additional teams are sought for the event.
“Hospice of Care serves all of Texas County and the surrounding area,” Gentry stated. “We hope to have chili teams from all of the areas where Hospice of Care services are available.”
An award will be given to the team that raises the most money. Team fundraising can be done prior to and at the event.
A panel of judges will taste the chili and award a prize for the judges’ choice. There will also be a prize for the people’s choice, the spiciest chili and the best decorated/theme booth. Medals will be awarded in each category.
“Our goal this year is to raise at least $60,000 for Hospice of Care,” Gentry said.
The money raised at the cook off will further the endeavors of Hospice of Care which provides hospice care for terminally ill patients and their family members regardless of their ability to pay for the services.
“A very important aspect of the annual Hospice of Care fundraising event is that all money raised at the event will stay in the Texas County area to benefit area patients,” Gentry said.
“If you or your business or organization is interested in participating in the event, we welcome additional participation,” Gentry said. “You can take part in the fun of having a team for the event, or you can sponsor a team or the event.”
In addition to sponsorship, tickets will be sold to the event –$10 for adults and $5 for children and are available through Hospice of Care and the Healthcare Foundation at TCMH.
TCMH Hospice of Care is also raffling a Bad Boy ZT60 Elite lawn mower to raise additional funds. The winner of the lawn mower raffle will be announced at the event.
Business or organizations that wish to sponsor teams can obtain a complete set of rules and an entry form through the TCMH Healthcare Foundation, (417) 967-1377 or at www.tcmhfoundation.org.
