January 30, 2013Texas County Memorial Hospital is seeking additional volunteers to serve at the county hospital as the hospital moves into the new construction this year.
“As the hospital grows, we are growing our volunteer base,” Roma Hollenbeck, president of the TCMH Auxiliary, explained.
Currently, the TCMH Auxiliary and the TCMH Youth Ambassadors provide volunteer services at the hospital to help with patients, their family members and visitors.
“We need volunteers that will read to patients, sit and talk with patients, or assist patients with activities like personal care or playing a game,” Hollenbeck said. “We also have a need to help patients and their family members as they are discharged from the hospital, and professional services such as assisting with departmental phones and staffing informational desks are also in demand.”
According to Hollenbeck, the TCMH Youth Ambassadors provide a lot of one-on-one patient care in the evenings and after school, but additional assistance is needed with patients and the public during working hours.
“I hope that some able-bodied, retired men and women that have free time during the day will be able to join our volunteer ranks for a few hours each month,” Hollenbeck said.
