July 14, 2022Texas County Memorial Hospital’s physical therapy department received accolades from Pearl Edgar of Eminence, a physical therapy patient, for her recent recovery from her hip injury.
Pearl experienced a bad fall on the concrete after a missed step while she was visiting her great-grandson in Portland, Oregon on March 1.
“I ended up with a hip fracture and had surgery in Portland on March 2,” Edgar said. “I traveled back to Missouri and began physical therapy April 4 at TCMH.”
Edgar explained that this was her third time for therapy at TCMH. “My first time was in 1987 after a car wreck that resulted in a left shoulder injury,” Edgar said. “The second time was a heart issue in which I went to cardiac rehab at TCMH.”
“Pearl came into physical therapy after her recent fall utilizing a walker,” Ellen Willis, PT, CWS, CLT-LANA, director of physical therapy said. “We assessed her condition and immediately started exercises with a focus on stretching, swelling management, and getting the range of motion and strength back in her hip.”
Willis explained from there the program progressed to gait training to improve her ability to stand and walk. Balance training, stair stepper, and resistance training equipment were instrumental for Edgar’s recovery.
Edgar went to TCMH physical therapy two to three times per week and completed her 12-week program on June 23.
“Pearl was a great patient who followed her exercise regime here and at home just as instructed,” Willis said. “Her focus resulted in a great outcome, as Pearl was able to walk again at the end of her therapy with zero restrictions and no walking devices.”
“I am so happy that it all worked out after many prayers and excellent help from everyone at TCMH physical therapy,” Edgar said. “I would recommend them to anyone as they helped me restore my mobility back to what it was before the fall.”
Edgar finished by saying she was forever thankful for the unbelievable quality of care she received at TCMH physical therapy.
